Get the House Ready for Holiday Guests Without PTO

Short answer
Line up the heat and the plumbing before the cosmetic visits, give each crew its own window, and put one person at the door. You can get the house ready for guests and stay at work.
In mid-October, Thanksgiving and the December holidays are close enough to schedule the visits and far enough that you can keep your workweek. This is a sequence for a house in New Braunfels or Carrollton.
What should I handle before guests arrive?
- Heat. If it has not run since spring, that checkup comes first. See who lets the technician in for a furnace check.
- The bath guests will use. A running toilet, a drip, or no hot water. A plumber may find a second issue and need a yes while they are there.
- Anything that can trip someone: a loose rail, a door that will not latch, a dark step.
- What guests actually see: that bath, a clear path, and the rooms you want cleaned. A cleaner needs the door opened and a list of rooms.
- Nice-to-haves after those are on the calendar, not before.
Can I stack every visit on one day off?
One day off rarely fits a plumber, a heating technician, and a cleaner. Windows slip, and two crews in one hallway helps nobody. Give each visit its own block on the calendar.
The working-homeowner version of this is how to handle home repairs when you work full-time: a series of windows, not a week of PTO.
Who lets each service provider in while I am at work?
Each in-home visit needs a person at the door. That is the whole point of do I need to be home when a contractor comes. Tell that person the company name, the window, the rooms in scope, the price you already agreed to, and that extra work waits for your text.
A Bell Rep does that as the job. They are 21 or older, background-checked through Checkr, check the service provider's ID and credentials, wear a body camera, disclosed to the service provider on arrival, and send you photo updates and a visit summary.
Bookings are not open yet. Join the founding list. Bell is launching in New Braunfels and Carrollton, and Dallas is on the waitlist. Founding members get the first bookings. A booking is a $100 deposit for a two-hour Bell Rep window. Unused time is refunded automatically after the visit is marked complete (FAQ).
What do I send the person who is home for me?
- Company name and the arrival window.
- What you hired them to do, in one or two lines.
- Rooms that are off limits.
- Your phone number, and the rule that add-ons wait for your yes.
- Where the guest bath, the filter, and the indoor unit are, if that is the visit.
If the visit includes electrical, heating, or plumbing, look up the license first: Texas contractor license lookup. A bigger kitchen or bath plan belongs in planning a winter remodel while you work full-time.
Quick answers
How early should I schedule home visits before holiday guests?
In mid-October, start with heat and the guest bath. Those visits get harder to place once the first cold snap hits and the holidays are close. Cosmetic work can follow.
Do I need to take a week off to get the house ready?
No. Split the work into separate windows, keep a written scope for each one, and have one person at the door so you can stay at work.
Can one person handle a cleaner and a plumber on the same day?
Only if the windows do not overlap and that person has written instructions for each visit. Separate windows keep each recommendation clear.
Can a Bell Rep open the door for guest-prep visits?
When bookings open, yes. Join the founding list for New Braunfels or Carrollton. A Bell Rep checks ID and credentials, sends photo updates, and leaves you a visit summary. The deposit is $100 for a two-hour window, and unused time is refunded.
