Planning a Winter Remodel While You Work Full-Time
The Bell Team · October 2026 · Last reviewed
Short answer
You can plan a kitchen, bath, or flooring project for this winter and keep your workweek. Put the scope in writing first, then have someone at the door for deliveries, inspections, and any change to the price.
The crew still arrives on a weekday morning. Your job still starts on time. The plan below is how those two facts can both be true in New Braunfels and Carrollton.
Why start an indoor project in late fall or winter?
Kitchen, bath, and flooring work happens inside. In a Texas winter you are not opening the house to summer heat, and you still have time before holiday guests if you start the plan in October. Evenings are for samples and decisions. Weekday mornings are when someone has to be at the door.
If the heat itself is the project, do that checkup first: who lets the technician in for a furnace check.
What should I have in writing before the first day?
- Rooms in the scope, and rooms that stay closed.
- Work hours, and who locks up at the end of the day.
- Who orders materials, and what happens if the wrong item shows up.
- How they protect floors and keep dust out of the rest of the house.
- How a change gets priced, in writing, before extra work starts.
- The license number for any electrical, air-conditioning, or plumbing work inside the project.
Texas has no statewide license for general contractors. Electrical work and air-conditioning work, including heating, go through TDLR, and plumbing goes through the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners. Look the license up before the crew starts: Texas contractor license lookup. The longer list of hiring questions, including kitchen and bath, is in questions to ask a contractor before hiring.
Which days of the project need someone at home?
- Day one, so the crew sees the rooms you meant.
- Any delivery that comes inside or includes installation. See do I need to be home for a delivery or installation.
- An inspection, or a change in scope.
- Any moment they need a yes on a price.
You do not need to stand in the hallway for every hour of a multi-day job. You do need a person there when access or a decision is the point. More on that in do I need to be home when a contractor comes and how to handle home repairs when you work full-time.
How do I stay at work while the project is open?
Treat the project as a series of windows, not a week of PTO. On the mornings that need a person, write down what you already agreed to and hand that note to whoever is home.
A Bell Rep can be that person. They meet the crew, check the service provider's ID and credentials, and send photos so you can see the work from your desk. Every Bell Rep is 21 or older, background-checked through Checkr, and wears a body camera, disclosed to the service provider on arrival. You get a visit summary when the window ends.

Quick answers
Can I start a kitchen or bath project while I work full-time?
Yes, if the scope, hours, and change process are in writing, and someone is home on the days that need access or a decision. You do not have to take the whole week off.
Do I have to be home every day of a flooring project?
No. Be sure someone is there on day one, for in-home deliveries, for inspections, and whenever the price might change. The other hours do not all need you in the house.
Which remodel trades need a Texas license?
Electricians and air-conditioning contractors, including heating, are licensed by TDLR. Plumbers are licensed by the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners. General contractors do not have a statewide license. Use the Texas contractor license lookup guide and confirm the name matches the company you hired.
Can a Bell Rep cover a remodel visit while I am at work?
When bookings open, a Bell Rep can meet the crew for a two-hour window, check ID and credentials, and send photo updates and a visit summary. Join the founding list. The deposit is $100, and unused time is refunded after the visit.
